Snake wood

Snake wood – lat. Brosimum guianense
Its trade or fancy name comes from the appearance of the wood, either lacy spots or short stripes like snake or tiger, hence it is called "snake" or "tiger" wood. The Dutch also call it "nutmeg" wood after the wavy spots like those on a cut nutmeg. It comes from trees growing in Guyana and northern Brazil. It is an extremely hard wood with a JANKA value of up to 4000 lbf depending on the area. It sinks in the water. Thanks to the beautiful pattern, hardness and ability to achieve a high gloss when polishing, it is one of my TOP3 woods for making pens. It is one of the most beautiful, expensive and rare woods in the world.
