Red Heart (often also called Chakte Kok) is an exotic wood originating from the tropical regions of Central and South America, especially from countries such as Mexico, Brazil and Paraguay. It is known for its distinctive red to purple color, which can take on softer shades of brown or orange over time, especially when exposed to light. However, this color can be restored by surface treatment or painting.
Hardness according to JANKA is 1220 lbf.
Red Heart wood is dense, hard and durable, yet easy to work with, making it a favorite among crafters. It is mainly used for the production of decorative objects, marquetry, knife handles, jewelry boxes, musical instruments and smaller pieces of furniture. Thanks to its colorful color and smooth texture, it is a sought-after material in arts and crafts.
Although it is not the rarest exotic wood, its unique appearance and durability make it an attractive material for luxurious and aesthetically impressive products.
