Eben

Eben
There are several types of foreign woods under the name "Eben". It is a trade name for a large group of trees with a large dark, black-brown and completely black core. I use brown black Diospyrros crassiflora wood from Africa (Cameroon, Nigeria, Gabon and Lobo). On average, 1 m3 weighs about 1.2 tons and sinks in water (imitation does not float). According to JANKA, the hardness reaches up to 3000 lbf (depending on the tree and the landscape of the watershed).
Its name is derived from the Hebrew word "e b e n", which means stone, i.e. the wood is "hard as stone". I very much like to use it for turning, as it is excellently machined. In combination with silver, precious metals such as platinum and palladium, it is a real gem. As I prefer simplicity and authenticity, I do not varnish the wood so that it breathes and the client has the experience of touching this wonderful material. The wood is coated with rope oil for protection.
